Throughout the year I have been working on various projects to advance my skills and knowledge in photography. Through elements and principles I was able to further develop art making skills, as well as set a basis for the rest of the year. When we collaborated as a class to create the light painting images as a class, we got really cool results and it was really fun. It’s too hard to chose my favorite project, because I have a few. I was really happy with my double exposure pictures. If I could do something to change them though, I would do them all in the style of the video that I watched. The reason I didn’t do that was because it took so long, but I think if I did it a few more times it would become easier. Those pictures were also built off of previous projects, this year and last, using Photoshop. The street art, as well as the Hockney style images all contributed to my projects and refreshing me on Photoshop. I also really loved light painting, because that was just really fun. If I were to do it again I think I would bring in more props and brainstorm more ideas. I think I could get some other really cool effects. But if I had to chose I think I might chose the most recent project I did, with the portraits. I haven’t completely finished editing them all, because there were so many that I really liked. I really thought those turned out really well, and I really enjoy taking portraits.
One of my most recent pieces, with Amanda in the lighting and in 3 different colors, I think reflects me as an artist. It’s one of my favorite pieces. It shows mood through different lighting and colors, and how colors have an effect on the mood of a picture. It’s the same picture, yet the colors give it a slightly different mood. It was also inspired by Andy Warhol, which is pretty cool. His work is awesome. I really love the image that I captured, with Amanda’s expression, and how the lighting worked out. Art gives me the opportunity to express my ideas and thoughts in a way. It makes me feel at peace, and can also help me express opinions. It’s an outlet for me, as for many others. I really do believe it can change the world. It can shape opinions and minds, and can showcase injustices, or even happy things. It really is a type of freedom. I value the ability to have this freedom everyday.
